Virginia VA state license plate law question
l have a question about a license plate law in state of Virginia (VA). My
car is registered in VA but l got a ticket by a parking enforcement
officer stating that the plate was not displayed clearly and securely in
the front. However, l had the license plate inside of the car right behind
the glass so that it is clearly visible to see the numbers and the letters.
My windows are not even tinted and the law never states that it requires
the license plate on the front bumper. Just present in the front. l looked at the DMV website for the law and it says, wording, numbers and decals are upright, visible and readable. The license plate holder or frame cannot obscure the license plate number, name or issuing state or expiration decals. So what should l do about this situation? Should l go to the court to contest this? l do not wanna pay the $40.00 fine and if l go to the court it is even more expensive. So what would be the best thing to get rid of this ticket? a space for a license tag, then the judge can excuse it. Is this true? The ticket just says that l have to pay fine and if l wanna contest then l have to call the court. l recieved this ticket while l was at school so l was not present at the time the officer left the ticket. Also, there is so many cars around in VA that does not have a license plate in the front and most cops do not give them a ticket. It is usually ignored a lot. Once again, it was by a parking enforcement officer not a normal cop that manages traffics. Thanks
I would just pay it. I don't know if you will have to still
pay court fees if it gets thrown out, but all the local governments are
shaking down locals for money because of budget shortcomings.
They could easily say it wasn't upright, because if it were, you would be
driving with it obscuring ur field of vision & that would be dangerous. I
switched my registration to VA & had them just screw the plate into the bumper (which was more painful than if they just screwed it into my forehead). The state code does actually say it must be attached to both the front & rear of the vehicle. If it is placed on the dash, it is not actually attached.
